Phew, sure took me a while to finally start this website and share my story...

I'm a bit intimidated by putting myself out there like this, mostly because my life with diabetes type 1 has been very subtle. I tend to keep this aspect of my life hidden, unless it's important to those surrounding me, including friends and family.

Regardless, here I am, taking a leap of faith into sharing my journey, including ups and downs, highs and lows, hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia.

First off, a question for you:

What influences blood sugar levels?

  • Carbohydrates

  • Insulin

  • Physical activity

  • Stress

You can vote for more than one answer.

We know that blood sugar levels are influenced by carbohydrates and insulin. What tends to be underestimated are the other influences. As a matter of fact, all of the above influence blood sugar levels.

I won't go in to too much detail (yet), but I hope the message is clear: this is what makes blood sugar management complicated. Even though I might eat two exact same meals, with the exact same amounts of carbohydrates, administering the exact same amount of insulin, my blood sugar might respond differently, and most likely, it will.

Purpose

The goal of this website is to showcase that a life with diabetes type 1 is so much more than just blood sugar management, counting carbohydrates and calculating insulin.

What can we do about this? Proper overall health management, including physical as well as mental health care. Keeping as many of our health aspects in check is the best way to manage our blood sugars, as well as mood. Because they also have an impact on eachother.

Future

In the future you can expect all kinds of content, including:

  • tips & tricks

  • technology updates

  • new research

  • lifehacks

  • information about blood glucose management, physical activity and mental health management.

Overall: everything that has to do with blood glucose management, and my personal journey with diabetes type 1.

Thanks for tuning in!
